Just think Kansas and North Carolina

Disclaimer: I am a resident of North Carolina, so there may be a bit of Chicken Little in what I am about to say . . .

For the next two years at least, the Republican Party will have control of all three branches of government. There were times in which this might not have been a bad thing . . . I am thinking the times in which Dwight Eisenhower and William F. Buckley were voices of the Republican Party. These days, not so much. Fox News would excoriate Eisenhower for being concerned with the rise of the military-industrial complex and Rush Limbaugh would be all over Bill Buckley for his erudition and the fact that he uses words with more than one syllable in them. 8 November 2016 signaled the beginning of the Second Dark Ages.

For an idea of what we have in store, one need look only as far as Kansas and North Carolina. The 2012 elections gave both state houses and the governorship to the Republicans who immediately went to work implementing their radical agendas. Their economic agenda has ended up all but completely crippling Kansas . . . Meanwhile, North Carolina Republicans have been working as hard as they can to take away rights from all non-white non-males. According to a report from the UCLA School of Law, HB2 alone could end up costing the state almost $5 billion a year . . .

All of the evidence suggests that, given the current state of the Republican party, it is reasonable to expect that by next year this time, the United States will pretty much resemble a composite of Kansas and North Carolina.

Expect the activity in Washington to resemble a shark feeding frenzy . . .
